2 Timothy 4:3-4 – For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine, but according to their own desires, because they have itching ears, they will heap up for themselves teachers; and they will turn their ears away from the truth, and be turned aside to fables.
Have you ever turned your ear away from reality? For me, it was shutting my ears off to a news article regarding certain suffering in the world because it was too unbearable to listen to. Sometimes, it feels better not to hear it at all!
It’s unfathomable to think that we are living in such a day when the Bible has become unpleasant for some Christians to listen to!
“For the time will come when they will not ENDURE sound doctrine”
Here, the word ENDURE means “to hold oneself up against.”
It’s like looking into a mirror. We have to ask ourselves, “Does my reflection look similar to the object I am beholding?”
“Because they have ITCHING ears”
Knetho is the Greek word for itching, and it means “Being desirous of hearing something pleasant!”
Let’s be careful not to merely focus on portions of God’s Word that make us feel good and disregard the rest!
Let’s be ones who embrace the whole truth allowing it to penetrate our ears and hearts to refine us from the inside out!
