Psalm 71:23 – My lips shall greatly rejoice when I sing to You, And my soul, which You have redeemed.
Joy looks like something!
Here, the psalmist, David, was expressing joy over the fact that God had redeemed (delivered, rescued) his soul! To understand more fully, let’s look at the chapter as a whole.
“Deliver me, O my God, out of the hand of the wicked, and cruel man.” –Psalm 71:4
Once again, David found himself in a dire situation! HIS BACK WAS AGAINST A WALL!
GOD was his ONLY DEFENSE!
So, when David was singing to God in verse 23, it was MUCH MORE than a song! It was a passionate display of gratitude exuding from the depth of his soul!
Let’s read the opening scripture again!
My lips shall GREATLY REJOICE when I SING to You, AND MY SOUL, which You have redeemed!
Rejoice means to shout, to cry out, or to be overcome with joy! It also means TO EMIT A STRIDULOUS SOUND!
One of the synonyms for stridulous is TURBULENT. This can mean violent, passionate, disorderly, messy, and untidy!
Sometimes our praise should have a little turbulence and passion on it! Religion might say otherwise (you’ll look foolish!)
