Jeremiah 15:16 — Your words were found and I ate them, And Your word was to me the joy and rejoicing of my heart; For I am called by Your name, O Lord God of hosts.
Have you ever heard a more radical statement than eating God’s Word?!?
I love that Jeremiah used this terminology!
It articulates spectacularly the power that the living Word of God had upon his heart!
I don’t know anything else that has brought me more joy, peace, and comfort than being a lover of the Word of God!
I especially remember how powerful and instrumental the Bible was to the healing and renewing of my mind when I first became a Christian! The more I read it, the more God engraved this verse upon my heart: “You shall KNOW the TRUTH, and the TRUTH shall make you FREE!”
We are living in a day when many Christians are turning to other cisterns first for their peace and healing. Some are chasing prophetic words MORE than chasing THE WORD! That can be a faulty road to travel. Let me explain: I love and welcome prophetic words, and God has used them greatly in my life, but there is NO comparison nor substitute for the amount of transformative change that meditating upon scripture has had upon my soul!
Nothing has anchored and centered me more than the Bible. It is my prophetic word, ANY day, EVERY day!
The word EAT in Jeremiah 15:16 means to CONSUME, to DEVOUR, to FEED upon!
When speaking about God’s Word, Jeremiah said it was the JOY and rejoicing of his heart! It brought him much gladness and immense pleasure! No wonder he ate it and ate of it often!!
In your pursuit of God, always run back to the Bible; you’ll find Him waiting there for you time after time!
Always steady,
Always speaking,
Always ready to fill you with delight!
