2 Samuel 6:6-7 – And when they came to Nachon’s threshing floor, Uzzah put out his hand to the ark of God and took hold of it for the oxen had stumbled. Then the anger of the Lord was aroused against Uzzah, and God struck him there for his error; and he died there by the ark of God.
A sad and tragic event for certain! What can we extract from this passage that speaks to us today? One thing I’m grateful for is the righteous blood of Jesus that tore the veil of separation between us and God’s presence!
We don’t need to be afraid of God; He’s a compassionate and forgiving Father. But, we DO need a healthy reverence and Fear of the Lord restored back into the church today.
Perhaps the pathway to Uzzah’s downfall didn’t begin by touching the ark?! The Bible says that they first placed the ark of God on a NEW cart and drove it.
It was not customary to do it that way. It was not how God prescribed for them to do it. They came up with a NEW and BETTER plan in their own eyes!
If we’re not careful, we can allow our clever ideas to replace God’s ideas. God doesn’t need our cleverness to make His Gospel more attractive!
I believe there is a real call to return to the simplicity of the gospel right now! A return to God’s proven, ancient paths and principles! A zealous return to the preaching of His Word from Old to New Testament!
I don’t want to have a casual attitude toward God. I don’t want to flippantly put my hands (or voice) on anything the Holy Spirit is not speaking in the moment!
We want the REAL THING, and we want the Holy Fear of the Lord!
YOUR WAY is BETTER,
