2 Samuel 24:24 – But the king replied to Araunah, “No, I insist on buying it, for I will not present burnt offerings to the Lord my God that have cost me nothing.” So David paid him fifty pieces of silver for the threshing floor and the oxen.
I’ve always loved this passage in 2 Samuel. David was in need of buying a threshing floor to build an altar to the Lord.
It was more than an altar for worship; it was an altar for sacrifice! They are two of the same! Therefore, David did not feel right about buying it at NO cost.
How beautifully laced is this theme of sacrifice in the New Testament as well when Jesus teaches about the costliness of following Him!
True worship WILL always cost you something. Living for Jesus demands full surrender!
At moments, it will require your time, your treasure, your talent, your labor, your plans, etc., but the altar constructed will be a most beautiful sacrifice. He’s worthy of ANY price!!
When approaching God, bring to Him your most costly gift, your LIFE! Lay it on the altar by giving Him permission to handle every aspect of it! This includes permission to interrupt your pursuits and ambitions for something HIGHER!
Give Him what He’s WORTHY OF!
NO COST too GREAT,
